Where could I find free quilt patterns online?

Dec 04, 2008 | quilt patterns

I’m new at this. I have searched other questions about quilting on this site, and I’m wondering what other suggestions people have on what would be a nice quilt design. I do have a sewing machine, so that’s not a problem. :)

A GREAT source for individual block patterns would be:

    http://www.quilterscache.com/

Most of the blocks there are sized for 12″ finished. You could:
    • choose one and repeat it using different fabrics
    • choose two and alternate them
    • choose a bunch and make a sampler quilt

These quilt options would all probably look best with sashing between the blocks.

Here is a link to some beginning quilting instructions:

There’s a ton of information for quilters at http://piecemealquilts.wordpress.com/quilting-resources/ . It includes links to all sorts of free patterns, including block patterns as well as full quilts. It also has info about color choices, general instructions, shopping, and even videos. This is the mother lode of great complete quilt patterns from fabric manufacturers. Fabric makers give their patterns away for free (at least most of them do) in order to get you to buy their fabric. There are hundreds, if not thousands of free quilt patterns linked through this page.
