“My Magical Lens” - A Harry Potter Quilt was designed, pieced, sweated over, bled for and tears shed by Jennifer Ofenstein (ofenjen) during 2006-2007. A Harry Potter fan since 1999, I started designing paper pieced HP quilt squares because of the limited supply of HP fabric on the market and I really wanted to make an HP quilt for my family.
Many of my patterns are available free at www.sewhooked.org.
I’m currently working on my first quilt book and hope to have a publisher soon.
Look for How To Paper Piece and other crafty videos on my YouTube page; text tutorials and free patterns at sewhooked.org.

I need to have the quilt on my bed cleaned. It is handmade and has the little yarn ties at every corner, so I think it is super delicate. It is pretty dirty because I let my 2 dogs sleep in the bed. How should I clean it or does the drycleaner offer this service and what is the price?
Delicate or gentle cycle in your washer or the laundry mat's giant machine might be better. It would have more room in the big tub too wash. You could always wash it in the bath tub by hand, but the majority of hair will not come out like that. You have got to wash it one way or the other. Short of having it dry cleaned or something. You can just call for a quote. They all have different prices. But I think the washer will be ok on the delicate or gentle cycle. Dry for about 5 minutes then hang it up.

I design quilt patterns, and also do long arm quilting, and my long arm quilting customers have asked me where they can purchase my quilting patterns at. I’ve been thinking… is it legal to go into local quilting supply stores to see if they would like to purchase at wholesale? The local small businesses are independently owned and not a franchise… is this legal or would I need special licenses?
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
If you design these patterns and want to protect them there are several ways of doing that, copyright is one way but that cost money. The simple way to hold protection is to mail yourself a copy of your pattern, do not open it when you receive it, before mailing on the back side of the envelope across the seal write the name or ID of the pattern. This is referred to as the poor mans copyright. Your mail will have a postmark with a date on it if any one should use your product with out your consent you will have documentation in the event you have to go to court to collect damages. As far as selling your product, you should not do it till you protect your product first. Kinko’s will help you with producing your patterns to print, make sure you write the pattern name or ID on the copies you are making copied exactly as you have it on the back of the envelope. Gene

I am a beginner when it comes to quilting. I would like to try hand quilting, but the frames i have found so far are really expensive….. I would like to find a frame or plans for a frame. Is there anyone out there that can help?
This is the simplest and least expensive frame of all, if you are or know someone who could do a little carpentry, and would give you a chance to get the feel of a frame.
I'd like to suggest another option, too. Many people find it works well to baste the quilt then quilt it in a hoop (18"-24" round is a good size), because it takes less room so it's portable. Hoops are cheap, too - I bought my last 2 at resale shops for around $2 each - so it's much less of a commitment.
I don't know if you've found them already or not, but the 'quilting' area at 'about.com' is great - lots of terrific info for all levels of quilters.
