What is the easiest way to finish a quilt? 2

Feb 17, 2009 | quilt

Now that I've got my top piece done, I'm really confused on how to finish it. As this is my first quilt, please use simple and straightforward instructions. Also, I've heard that you can use either batting or flannel for the middle piece, is there an advantage/disadvantage to either? Thank you so much in advance

The Anatomy of a Quilt:

All quilts share a basic anatomy, which consists of three layers plus the materials that hold those layers together.

The layers of the quilt, often called the quilt sandwich, include the quilt top, batting, and backing.

The quilting and binding join the layers together

Quilt batting will work the best for the middle.

Flannel would be OK for the backing, but pre-wash and dry first - it tends to shrink.

Fleece backing is another option.

You can bind the edges or use a pillowcase type finish for the backing and forgo the binding.

Pillowcase style finish - http://quilting.suite101.com/article.cfm/bind_your_quilt_pillowcase_style

Lots of good info at this site (see the sidebar) - http://quamut.com/quamut/quilting/page/introduction_to_quilting.html

blood in the bathroom ch.3 1

Feb 16, 2009 | quilting supplies

“Ill help you study for it.”
“Theres not enough time. We have to do the project. Thats worth just as much as the test. I have to pass both of them.”
Cody began to put his supplies in his backpack, “The projects not due for another week. We have plenty of time to finish it.”
He stood up and walked over to Zack, “Is there something you havent been telling me? Youre acting weird.”
“No Im not.”
He let out a defeated sigh, “Fine, dont tell me,” he paused, “Do you want me to help you study or not?”
Zack dried his tears and nodded.
“Okay,” Cody said. He took Zacks hand and led him to the table and they opened their history books.
Cody went over everything that was going to be on the test and explained everything that Zack didnt understand.
They were still studying when Carey came back.
Zack was catching on quickly enough. He felt embarrassed for crying in front of Cody. He tried to pretend that it didnt happen.
“Hows the project coming along?” Carey asked when she walked into the suite.
“Its on hold,” Cody replied, “Were studying for a test instead.”
After a little while, Carey went to bed. Zack and Cody continued studying in their room. They sat on Codys bed, side by side, looking over his textbook.
“Okay,” Cody said, “Where was the atomic bomb dropped?”
“Hiroshima”
“Right, when was the date?”
“August 6th nineteen forty-five”
Cody closed the book and smiled at Zack, “I think youre ready.”
Zack looked at him hopefully, “really?”
“Yes, really,” Cody replied lying back against his pillows. It was almost one oclock in the morning. He was exhausted from all of the studying—and he already knew everything.”
“Thanks for helping me, Cody,” he said quietly.
Cody played with the fringe of his quilt, “Zack, youd tell me if something was wrong, wouldnt you?”
“What do you mean?”
He sat up, “Youve been acting different lately. Youre always sleeping and youve been really quiet. And I think this is the first time Ive ever seen you worry about school in your entire life.”
“Nothings wrong,” Zack whispered.
“Okay,” Cody replied, even though he sounded like he didnt believe him, “If you decide you want to talk you know where to find me.”
“Thanks, Dr. Cody,” he muttered sarcastically.
Cody turned the lights off and climbed under his covers, “Night, Zack.” He said as his brother walked to his own bed, “Good luck tomorrow.”
“Night,” Zack replied. He got into his bed and pulled the covers up to his neck.
As he slowly drifted to sleep, he wondered if Cody was right. He had been feeling sort of weird in the recent weeks.
‘Theres nothing wrong with me,’ Zack thought emphatically, ‘Im fine.’

The Jonas Family Quilt 12

Feb 16, 2009 | quilt

Kristen F. of Team Jonas, the mastermind behind the party held at the venue before the Burning Up show in Dallas, asked members of Team Jonas to make and send her quilt squares for the quilt that she was going to make for the Jonas Family. Please note that Kristen had never made a quilt before. Actually getting the quilt to them was as labor intensive as the making of the quilt, but worth it none the less.
